Bishops
The Bishops, located below the Monarch in the Feudal System were in charge of diocese, an area containing more than one congregation throughout the Medieval time. A bishop was known as a vassal, somebody who had sown loyalty to their feudal lord. A Bishop during the Feudal age was known as an ordained priest whom served as a pastor of one congregation. The Bishops also baptized children, performed wedding, heard confessions, distributed last rights, settled disputed (arguments). The Bishops also controlled the Church's finances and assigned clergies to their post. The Bishops were enabled to wield as much as they wanted. The priests and monasteries within the dioceses were ruled by the Bishops. Bishops became very wealthy and gained lots of money due to the collection of taxes. Bishops also had lots of land which was owned by the King, this was called Fief or an estate.. Mainly because they swore fealty to the king. Fealty is where the bishops swore an allegiance with their lord, and then a homage takes place to demonstrate a ceremony where fealty is sworn.
